Filing services: There are no direct filings of applications at an ASC. Services after you file The only *after* filing service provided by an ASC is fingerprinting related to an application for an immigration benefit based on an appointment.

By mail customers are notified of an appointment or are asked to call customer service to schedule an appointment. ASCs do not directly provide Case Services relating to the status of applications or other associated services.

Appointments they make: USCIS may schedule an appointment at an ASC as your cases is processed. It is important that you make every effort to make that appointment. Not appearing will at least delay your case. It may mean certain processing steps will have to be repeated. It may also affect eligibility for benefits, and could mean the denial of your application or petition. The appointment notice will explain alternatives if you cannot make your appointment. Appointments you can make For certain services USCIS let you make your own appointment. Follow the instructions on the form instruction or the notice that is sent you. It is important you make your appointment promptly to ensure that the processing of your case is not affected. More information is provided on the USCIS locator page.

Fingerprints USCIS requires applicants and petitioners for certain immigration benefits to be fingerprinted for the purpose of conducting FBI criminal background checks. To better ensure both the quality and integrity of the process, USCIS processes fingerprint cards for immigration benefits only if an authorized fingerprint site prepares them.

Authorized fingerprint sites include USCIS offices, Application Support Centers (ASCs), and U.S. consular offices and military installations abroad. In general, USCIS schedules people to be fingerprinted at an authorized fingerprint site after an application or petition is filed.



USCIS charges $80 per person (for most applicants) at the time of filing for the fingerprinting service. The instructions on your Immigration application or petition form will advise you if you must be fingerprinted.

To make fingerprinting more convenient, USCIS has opened 84 freestanding fingerprint sites (ASCs) and 46 sites located in existing USCIS offices. USCIS now employs a system where fingerprints are taken and submitted electronically to the FBI. By using electronic fingerprint technology, USCIS has significantly reduced processing times for criminal background checks.

For applicants filing initial registrations of Form I-817 "Application for Family Unity Benefits under the Family Unity Program" or I-821 "Application for Temporary Protected Status [TPS]" with USCIS on or after March 29, 1998:

1. Do not submit a completed fingerprint card (FD-258) with your application. Your application will be accepted without the fingerprint card attached. If you submit a completed fingerprint card with your application on or after March 29, 1998, the card will be rejected and you will be re-fingerprinted by USCIS.

2. Do submit $80 in addition to the application fee, with your application. This charge will cover the cost for you to be fingerprinted by USCIS.

3. After USCIS receives your application, thet will provide you with an appointment letter with the location of the nearest USCIS authorized fingerprint site. Please read the instructions in the appointment letter, and take it to authorized fingerprint site when you go to your fingerprint appointment.

NOTE: Applicants filing extensions of "Family Benefits under the Family Unity Program" do not need to be fingerprinted and, therefore, do not need to pay the $80 biometricfee.

Applicants filing for extension of TPS benefits must pay the $70 biometric fee. This fee is not waivable.

Exception:

Applicants and petitioners residing abroad who are fingerprinted at a United States consular or military installation abroad do not need to be fingerprinted by USCIS and are exempt from the $80 biometric fee.
